A continuum is formed by an element
or value connected to the values
that occur before and after it.
A continuum represents a spectrum
and a sequence. In a continuum
there is no abrupt separation,
instead there is connection
and variation from
one element to the next
Ceramics today is a broad field,
with practice shaped by teachers,
mentors, peers, contemporary
knowledge, and histories of
craftspeople and artists
going back thousands of years.
We sit side by side in our community,
with strong connections between
emerging and established makers
and across varied expressions
of ceramics practice.
This exhibition will showcase
the diversity and excellence
of contemporary Australian ceramics.
SACRED GASP
H150mm x W150mm x D150mm
Stoneware clay, porcelain slip,
layered ceramic glaze materials,
steel wire, textured fabric,
screen-print stain application,
dry glaze, Multiple firing.
Clay vessels are emblems
of our primal needs as carriers
of water and nourishment.
InSacred Gaspthey also
safeguard the Hebrew prayer
Shema Yisrael, traditionally
recited daily and at life’s
end—a ritual continuum
linking generations.
Formed from bonded elements,
this work reflects the human
need to connect and the sustaining
thread between past and present.
Bridging clay and steel,
nature and man-made,
it holds a rising, meditative energy.
This upward emergence evokes
the prayer’s capacity to steady us
through life’s shifting dynamics,
a continuous cycle:
a gasp of grief and joy,
moment and eternity.
