In Canaanite Land

Canaan is the biblical name drawn out of an archaeological finding, recording that the Israelites origin was within the land of Canaan.

The CANAAN series, illustrates an imaginative fictional tale from the time of the ancient. A nostalgic journey or a reimagining of an ancient landscape. Aiming to imitate an archaeological finding or an artifact dug from the ground, I employ various techniques such as multiple firings, textured clay, and layered glaze materials.

Playful and whimsical these forms are often characterised by 3 legs. The three-legged symbol known astriskelion has been used in various cultures and historical contexts often representing concepts such as motion, progress, and interconnectedness of past, present, and future.

In this work, they also become the carriers of a family, migration, and cultural integration. A space in between, where history becomes fictional and ancient becomes contemporary.
