NESTLED STORY

This artwork is about connection, and the human need for comfort and fortitude.

Comprised of reiterated bonded elements, the structure reflects on nature’s malleable way of reproduction and its way of shielding the vulnerable organs.

Cocooned by the form are delicate porcelain parchments inscribed with Hebrew text. Wrapped within a secret prayer script wishing for well-being, are my father’s handwritten words describing a childhood journey to a place of longing. Offering comfort, familiar and distinctive, they are a part of me.

These cherished scripts, marked into the permanence of ceramics, emulates my desire to nestle and embrace. To keep the perishable timeless.

This work presents ideas of personal, cultural and universal significance. Potent yet delicate it conveys a fusion of many disparate elements, clay to fabric, nature to man-made, past to present, frozen moment to eternity.

NESTLED

This artwork is about connection, and the human wish for comfort and fortitude.
Comprised of reiterated bonded elements, the structure reflects on nature’s malleable way of reproduction and its way of shielding the vulnerable organs.

Cocooned by the form are delicate porcelain parchments inscribed with a secret Hebrew prayer ‘Birkat-HaKohanim’. This pray is traditionally recited as a farewell blessing for loved ones wishing for wellbeing and sustenance. Fused into the form it reflects on the dual notion of the need to comfort and protect and the need of being sheltered.

NESTLED presents ideas of personal, cultural and universal significance. Potent yet delicate it conveys a fusion of many disparate elements, clay to fabric, nature to man-made, past to present, frozen moment to eternity.

NESTLED – I FOUND A TREASURE BOX

I found a treasure box.

Enclosed was a stack of cards, gathered neatly, scented with an aroma of familiar home cooking. Story telling recipe box, a gift left behind after my mother-in-law’s recent passing.

Scanning through the cherished pile, each recipe revealed its unique personality and origin. Overcome with nostalgic longing, I encounter my mother’s name titling a recipe “Tzila best Burekas”. A traditional recipe passed down by my family for many years.

Moved by this discovery, I am reminded of my seamless connection to the two women, one whom has passed away and the other of whom is abroad. The two that shared a friendship, their role as mothers to me and the gift of comforting others through their joy of cooking.

This prayer, wishing for protection, is traditionally recited at morning, evening and at the passing of a life. Comprised of reiterated elements this structure reflects on nature’s malleable way of reproduction and its way of shielding vulnerable organs.

Presenting ideas of personal, cultural, and global significance this work embodies a dual notion, the need to protect and the need of being sheltered. Evoking a transcendence of time, it emulates the desire to nestle and embrace. To keep the perishable timeless.
